Ms. Gomez has over five years of public, private, and non-profit sector experience. She is a highly skilled technical planner with knowledge and expertise in green planning, land use and zoning, site plan review, redevelopment, project management and public presentations. Ms. Gomez’s primary responsibilities include taking the lead on green master planning projects, including the Doral Green Master Plan. The plan incorporates a comprehensive approach to locally address global climate change. The strategies and projects developed by this plan will lay the framework for the City’s policies to reduce its “carbon footprint” and conserve local resources. Collaboratively with other IPG experts, she helped develop the “Ten Guiding Principles” to guide the IPG green master planning approach.

Ms. Gomez’s commitment to designing and developing sustainable communities is evident in projects such as the Florida City Palm Drive Improvement Program. With community participation, the plan aims to transform the City’s Palm Drive commercial corridor into a walkable, multi-modal “main street.” Ms. Gomez has also written a Finding of Necessity for the City’s Community Redevelopment Agency that aims to expand the CRA boundary, giving the City’s most neglected residential neighborhoods access to redevelopment dollars. Ms. Gomez is simultaneously updating the Florida City CRA Redevelopment Plan, which will establish a coordinated vision for the revitalization of the City’s primary commercial corridors and residential neighborhoods. IPG produced the original 1995 CRA Plan for Florida City and the tax base has grown over 600% in the 13 years since the plan was written.

In addition, Ms. Gomez works with IPG clients to develop and amend comprehensive development master plans and land development codes. As the office’s expert on green planning and FGBC/LEED certification, Ms. Gomez is often utilized to conduct research and prepare presentations for trade shows, potential clients and local government boards and staff.

Ms. Gomez gained Florida planning experience while working for over three years with the City of Pompano Beach, Florida. Leaving as a Principal Planner for the City, she was charged with the development review of high profile projects such as Oceanside, a 17 story luxury mixed-use development; Sonata Beach Club, a 16 story luxury condominium tower; and the Pompano Center of Commerce, a 40 acre industrial, office and flex space park. She also provided expertise and assistance to residents, attorneys, architects and developers, and regularly presented projects to the City’s boards and Commission. Ms. Gomez served as the project manager on over 160 major developments and supervised a team of five professional planners.

In addition to Ms. Gomez’s experience in Florida, she worked for over two and a half years in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, serving the City of Pittsburgh, the University of Pittsburgh, Oakland Planning & Development Corporation and the Oakland Business Improvement District. Through these positions, she completed economic development projects for neighborhoods and business districts, conducted public policy research, and helped non-profits build operational capacity.

Outside of her work with IPG, Ms. Gomez sits on the Florida Green Building Coalition Standards Committee, the Sister Cities International Special Events Committee and is a regular volunteer for community events throughout Broward County.
