Ms. Louie’s primary professional interest lies in creating sustainable communities through the implementation of smart growth principles and design. Her core belief in developing livable, pedestrian-friendly communities that are land use efficient and environmentally sustainable have been exemplified in her work in urban design and site plan review. Her principles have also guided her through her recent completion of the City of Homestead’s Evaluation and Appraisal Report (EAR) based amendments for the comprehensive plan, which focus on the need for better land use coordination, mixed-use communities and implementation of “green” planning policies. Ms. Louie’s background in architecture has been utilized in a number of design projects to illustrate community concerns in workshops and presentations. One notable project was the North Bay Village Master Plan Charrette. In this project, her task involved heading work groups to formulate creative discussion, and to illustrate a vision for the beautification of the Kennedy Causeway. Prior to joining IPG, Ms. Louie worked as a Planner with the Palm Beach County Zoning Division in the Community Development Section. Her tasks involved graphic interpretation and preparation of statistical tabulations and charts for development studies. Ms. Louie also assisted in the review of development proposals to ensure consistency with the County Code. As a planner for IPG, Ms. Louie has performed tasks involving comprehensive plan amendments, preparation of EARs and EAR-Based Amendments, neighborhood plans, land development regulations and development review; and has acted as a facilitator in master plan and community visioning projects involving extensive community input and participation. Some notable projects Ms. Louie is currently working on or has successfully completed with IPG include the following: • Homestead General Planning Services/Annexation Studies Ms. Louie’s other planning related interests include ethnic enclaves in urban environments, transit oriented development and the implementation of renewable energy sources in planning and building design. Ms. Louie is a graduate from the School of Urban and Regional Planning from Ryerson University in Toronto, Canada. Her focus was in community development and site planning. In addition to her planning degree, Ms. Louie also has an Honors Bachelor of Arts (Hon. B.A.) degree in Architectural Studies (Design Concentration), and Urban Economic and Social Geography from the University of Toronto. Ms. Louie is a member of the American Planning Association and a provisional member of the Canadian Institute of Planners. |
